I have an external CD drive for my Mac. It worked great up until recently, when I put a disc in and it made a horrible crunching noise, and made some overworking/spinning noises, then ejected the disc. My iTunes/Mac never identified that a disc had been put in. It was a library CD so I thought that the security stickers were the cause, but it happens with all discs. Anyone with similar problems or solutions??

What kind of drive?
- A drive with a tray that slides out and goes in?
- Or a slot loading one where it "*****" in the disk?
How old is the drive?
Is there any foreign material in the drive?
It's just the external drive that you can buy from Apple (no trays, you can just slide the disc in), about a year or so old, and there isn't anything in the drive that I am aware of!
I would try on another computer but I suspect that the drive failed.
I would get an external tray-loading drive with AC power adapter. Thoe are more reliable.
